Welcome to A.Y.I.C.C.
The African Youth Initiative on Climate Change (AYICC) is an umbrella youth network of African based youth organizations, university groups, rural youth groups, community-based youth associations, and like-minded individuals who are committed to fight against climate change and biodiversity loss.
The initiative was conceived in 2006 in Nairobi Kenya, during the second International Conference of Youth preceding the UNFCCC, COP 12. The main reason for its founding was to ensure the inclusion, and active participation of youth voices from the south, and specifically Africa, in the international climate change negotiations. This was needed as the young people in Africa are almost half of the population and are most affected by climate change impacts- as well have the most potential to support Africa to take action on climate change.

Mr. Kassim is a conservation biologist and a climate change activist with a decade of experience working in the development sector. He holds a Master’s Degree in climate change and sustainable development with extensive research on coastal vulnerability.
Miss Oureratou is an Environmental Economist from Burkina Faso with extensive knowledge and experience in gender-related issues and climate change. Miss Oureratou is also the national focal point for the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) in Burkina Faso
Mr. Idowu is the co-founder of the ICCDI Africa, Youth Lead Author #GEO6. Young, energetic, & strategic leader who balances a practical view of competing for development interests with a passion for the environment.
